Tech Tip: Replacing the Hyundai Power Sliding Door Control Module

Service shops commonly encounter a “perfect storm” of problems, including confusing new vehicle features that can potentially blow away a lot of time and money. Case in point: a 2007 Hyundai Entourage that exhibits a post-repair condition such as a power sliding door that doesn’t fully close or that reopens itself after closing.

Although the collision damage was in the door/side panel area, the damage wasn’t severe and the repair looks great. But now comes the frustrating exercise of correctly diagnosing the problem while trying to conserve precious shop resources and maintain goodwill for all parties involved.

Common sense and experience says that this condition is probably not related to the repair, but who really knows? Given the complexities of today’s vehicles, this scenario occurs many times daily, and we’re all familiar with the need to close the repair cycle as efficiently and profitably as possible.

OEMs publish Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) for exactly these situations, but they’re of no value if you don’t know about them. Hyundai has issued Bulletin 09-BE-001 that addresses problems with power sliding doors, along with a new closing module. By checking TSBs in these situations, shops can protect valuable customer goodwill, avoid parts delays and eliminate technician frustration.

Some 2006-2008 Entourage models equipped with the Power Sliding Door (PSD) option may exhibit a condition where a PSD reopens approximately 6 inches from the latch area while closing. In those instances, the door ajar warning light will illuminate, along with all overhead interior lighting. In some cases, the door will also not reopen but the door motor continues to run for approximately two additional seconds after closing.

Models: Entourage vehicles with the PSD option produced from Jan. 10, 2006 through Oct. 2, 2007.

Service Information
Always refer to ALLDATA Collision for safety procedures, identification of material types, recommended refinish materials, and removal and installation procedures. Always refer to the vehicle manufacturer for questions relating to applicable or non-applicable warranty repair information.

Service Procedure
If a vehicle experiences the power sliding door closing condition, replace both PSD modules (Figures 1 and 2) with part number 95450-4D103 following the service procedure provided in the Entourage Service Shop Manual under the Body Electrical (BE) section, Power Sliding Door System, Power Sliding Door Module.

NOTE: There are two PSD modules, one for each PSD. They’re located on each of the two PSD drive units, behind the inner rear trim panel, above the rear inner wheel wells.

NOTE: Both PSD modules share a common part number (95450-4D103) and are interchangeable.
When resetting the power sliding doors after replacing the PSD modules:

1. Make sure both PSDs are closed.

2. Turn the ignition key to the off position.

3. Pull out (but don’t remove) the shunt fuse in the IPM fuse panel located at the lower left side of the steering wheel (Figure 3). Wait 30 seconds and then reinstall the shunt fuse.

4. On a level surface, use any power door input to completely open and close each PSD three times to relearn the doors.

5. Check each PSD for normal operation. Each PSD should operate smoothly and without hesitation. Should either PSD not operate normally, recheck for any other possible conditions that may affect normal operation.

6. If no other conditions are found and either PSD continues to exhibit the closing condition, contact TechLine for assistance.

NOTE: When returning the vehicle to the customer, remind him or her to wait a full 5 seconds after a closing input before placing the vehicle into gear in order for the PSD to close and latch.
